Welcome! For 2025, I decided to start a new writing project, and I’m glad to have you on board for the ride! My name is Jason Odell, and I’ve been a full-time photographer since 2010. Before that, I earned a Ph.D. in animal physiology and worked a variety of jobs in science, engineering, and education.
My goal as a photographer is to share the knowledge I’ve accrued over the years, and provide inspiration to others navigating the world of photography. Photography has been a gateway for me to meet some incredible people, travel the world, and stay creative in my own life.
I’ve been a full-time digital photographer since May of 2005, when I got my first professional DSLR. This year I’m celebrating 20 years of digital photographic experience. I’ve used Nikon, Fujifilm, and currently OM System cameras and lenses, and each holds a special place in my heart. It’s hard not to be system-centric (or downright tribal) when it comes to cameras, but I try to stay open-minded about systems… they’re all really good these days!
I encourage you to subscribe to my little adventure here; and if you’re really inclined, a paid membership will get you full access to technical articles, the ability to comment and chat, and other bonus content over the year.
