I’m in south Florida for another few days, working with a small group of clients, helping them to improve their bird photography skills and techniques. This morning, we had the fortune of being right up close to some warblers, which are tiny. Even with a monster telephoto lens, you can struggle to locate them in the viewfinder, much less get them to sit still long enough for a photo. So we were very fortunate to have a few not only sit still, but also be out in the open where you can have a chance to get a decent shot off.
The photo above is a palm warbler. I used the equivalent of a 1000mm lens, my trusted OM System 150-400mm f/4.5 TC (with the 1.25x TC engaged), and at a distance of only 5.3 meters. Yep, I was barely 15 feet from this little one, and I still had to crop in a little bit for the final image. You can really never have enough lens for birds!
