In 2019, I had the trip of a lifetime. I was able to put together a Galapagos adventure for a small group of clients and it was amazing. Whenever someone mentions the Galapagos Islands, most people immediately think of giant tortoises and the famous blue-footed boobies. But there are so many other animals there! In fact, there are seven unique species of boobies worldwide, and on this trip, we were able to photograph three of them (Blue-footed, Nazca, Red-footed).
In the Galapagos, the standing rule is that you must remain 6’ (2m) away from wildlife at all times. Seems odd, until you realize that these animals simply have NO FEAR of humans, If I had wanted to, I could have walked up to this bird, handed it my business card, and asked for a selfie. No joke.
The Galapagos remains one of the most amazing refuges for wildlife anywhere in the world, and it’s famous biodiversity of course led a young Charles Darwin down the path of formulating his theory of evolution by natural selection. Quick quiz: Do you know what animal species was instrumental in his studies (it wasn’t the boobies).
