It was October 2021. I took clients to Croatia on a trip I’d started planning in 2019, intended for April of 2020. Let’s just say that didn’t happen as planned. Two reschedulings later, I finally met my group in Split, Croatia. After a couple of planned pre-cruise nights to allow us to get acclimated to the time shift, we boarded a luxury yacht and sailed the Dalmatian coast, looking for photographs. It was at the end of the tour, in Dubrovnik, when I could finally relax a little bit. As fun as these tours are, when you’re responsible for a group you have a baseline level of stress that often goes unnoticed until that weight is lifted when you can say goodbye to your clients.
I stayed an extra day in Dubrovnik to enjoy the city with some close friends who’d also joined that tour. We were sitting in a sidewalk cafe, having a Coke, when out of nowhere a parade of majorettes (yes, this is true), came down the street and performed. This woman was in an apartment upstairs and was watching the event unfold. Of course, now that I’ve told you that, there’s far less mystery to this shot than if I’d just posted it. What I love about this one is you have the woman, clearly intrigued by something, framed by the bright green window shutters that are common in Croatia. Without the context of the parade, there’s a certain mystery here. I liked it, and hope you do, too.
