Happy Friday once again, everyone! Today’s photo takes us to the small town of Lisburn, a suburb of Belfast in Northern Ireland, UK. My sister has lived here since 2006 and has dual US/UK citizenship. So last year, before I led a photo group through Ireland, I of course made sure to pay her a visit. It was a sunny day, and we made the short walk into town, past the parks and the schools full of uniformed children. I really do appreciate how European cities are walkable. The thought of taking a car into town seemed foreign!
Lisburn isn’t a big town, but it’s claim to fame is that it was the birthplace of Ireland’s linen industry. Downtown, you’ll find the Irish linen museum, and lots of small shops and cafes. The colorful yarn in one shop got my attention, and I went in to make some photos. I chose a square crop for this shot to take advantage of the natural frame created by the shelf cubby holding the skeins. Shop local!
